Company History Volkstech was started by Don Reinhardt back in 1981. As fuel prices rose to 41 cents a gallon for Amoco white, he found it expensive to drive his Dodge R/T. He decided to purchase a 1965 Volkswagen Beetle to commute to and from work as a Machinist. One day the small car stopped working and being a motorhead since his early youth he ripped into it. He found the engine needed to be overhauled and started to repair it. A couple of weeks later the Bug was back on the road. Everyone he talked to asked who repaired his car because it ran so well. Soon he found people ask him to fix the bugs in their Bugs. So in his garage in his father's back yard, Volkstech was started. In 1981 He rented a small garage in Florence and then moved to it's current location. Volkstech has been servicing Volkswagens ever since. However there is more…. It was just before Christmas in 1995 when our dear friend Bill Hamilton of Auto Venture contacted us to inform us he was retiring and closing up shop. This was a big surprise to us and we started to get worried. See Auto Venture supplied Volkstech will all of the parts we used to repair and customize Volkswagens. Where were we going to get our parts now? Thus the Volkstech parts department was created. We bought out Auto Venture's inventory and supplier accounts. And yet more…. Back in 1988 there was this young kid that tinkered with everything, even his mom's 1973 Super Beetle. She had it serviced at Volkstech from time to time. In a casual conversation with Don, Volkstechs' owner she talked about this kid, her son. This kid Steven, then 15 started coming around the shop after school tinkering with the little Bugs. It wasn't soon after, that this young man could fix any thing on a Volkswagen. Steven went on to become the new owner of Volkstech in 2004, continuing the complete services we will provide for years to come. Donald P. Reinhardt |
